You're like a little kid (when they're not crying -- or screaming) who's lost in the game of the day, happily unaware of time.

This is why so many great inventions happen by chance. Seriously. Many of the world's most iconic inventions happened because of fooling around AFTER the serious work of the day was over. Post-It Stick-It Notes for one. And there are many more examples.
