WORDS TO LIVE BY

My favorite is “Don't try to smarten up a chump,” which to me means, save your breath, honey and believe what they tell you.

“You can't cheat an honest man / woman” makes us soberly confront if we always speak up honestly, like the kid in “The Emperor's New Clothes.”

“Never give a sucker an even break,” to me, is tongue-in-cheek (which he's famous for) and means it's up to each of us to be smart and make the right choices for ourselves.

I've carried this hilarious and profound advice by W.C. Fields around in my head for decades. If you don't know, W.C. Fields was hilarious, known for acting with Mae West and purportedly the highest paid actor/celebrity of his time.
